Happy Ostara!!

As the flowers re-emerge this Spring, we are also collectively re-emerging. Much of the world has been in lockdown, waiting to return to community and festivities.

Yesterday, day and night were equal at length. Today we celebrate the astrological new year as the sun rises in fiery Aries.

Throughout history, this time has been celebrated by our ancestors. Today we celebrate Ostara, a time of reawakening and of balance between light and dark, as we honor the Spring Goddess Ostara.

It’s not just Springtime again. No, I feel it’s a brand opportunity this year to do things differently. Our old ways of doing and being are not fruitful anymore. This Spring is different from other years, because Covid-19 has turned our lives upside down. Next week it will be full moon again. And this full moon also tells us that it is needed to take action. It is over now with turning inwards, isolating and being invisible.

In the new Spring, we are supposed to focus on a goal, a clear direction. And that we choose something that we can build on for a longer period of time. With Libra this full moon, it is important that we find balance.

But today is the time of year when we celebrate the return of light and fertility: the life energy. A time to get rid of the old and start new things. It is the time when life emerges from the earth and Winter is left behind. From this day on, the light will increase in strength and this is just what we need to focus on at this time, don’t you think?

This is a time of new beginnings, an opportunity to grow. Magick is all about focus and clear intentions. Your desire needs to be so strong that it sends a clear and directed message into the Universe. You can make it happen. And now is such an auspicious time to do so.

It is time to break free from your shell and bloom fully restored after a Winter’s rest. If you are feeling a bit groggy and not able to shake off the Winter blues, please go outside and move your body. Shake it out. Get the blood flowing and clear your head. Get out there, even if you just want to pull a blanket over yourself and go back to sleep. Connect to the natural cycles. Be in nature and your body will respond and you will feel much better, I promise.

This is a perfect time to set up your Ostara altar (you can find correspondences everywhere online) and do a ritual for happiness and success, perhaps do some Spring cleaning, go out in nature, plant seeds (but always check your Farmers Almanac for exact dates) and bring in fresh flowers to brigthen your home. Whatever you do, do make time today to connect to the Moon and make your intentions clear.

Plant annual flowers and vegetables that bear crops above ground during the light, or waxing, of the Moon. In other words, plant from the day the Moon is new until the day it is full. Plant flowering bulbs, biennial and perennial flowers, and vegetables that bear crops below ground during the dark, or waning, of the Moon. In other words, plant from the day after the Moon is full until the day before it is new again. – from the Farmer’s Almanac.

I have just started to clean my balcony and plant new bulbs and I feel like Spring cleaning and changing my wardrobe. I will go out for a long walk this afternoon and do tarot readings for myself and clients. This evening I am joining an online Ostara ritual. Oh I so long for real life events and connection, though online gatherings make it possible to meet up with people from all over the world, which is also powerful.

Ostara Tarot Spread

I used a tarot spread by Xia Hunt and The Tarot of Mystical Moments deck.

  1. Knight of Swords – I find my roots in my devotion to ‘the’ cause, my cause. And this is so true, this is what is driving me and making me get up every morning. My dedication to my purpose and mission.
  2. Eight of Pentacles – My focus, discipline, diligence and learning to master my skills are holding me up and again so true. No matter how tired I am or fed up, my drive to be better, to do better keeps me standing, not giving up.
  3. King of Swords (female – this deck has male and female Kings) – New growth is possible in the development of my intellectual power and mental clarity. Seeing truth in all matters. And yes I am deep in holistic science studies at the moment. It is challenging stuff, but I love it. I am an airy person and I love doing brain gymnastics. I also try and think for myself as much as possible and I think that is why my discerning faculties are well trained.
  4. King of Pentacles (female) – I am manifesting stability and security so I can take care of myself and others. I do very much hope so. As a Taurus moon I need stability in order to create. Disruption and too much change stresses me out and I freeze. Though there needs to be a balance always ofcourse, stability shouldn’t become stagnant and still, but more like deep roots keeping me grounded and replenished so I can share from a place of abundance not lack.
  5. Four of Cups – Externally I need to let go of people that are indifferent and passive. As well as leave situations that don’t make me feel fully engaged and connected. This is draining my energy and stunting my growth.
  6. King of Cups – Internally I am advised to let go of reactiveness, moodiness and heavy emotions inside of me, stay steady and calm inside and out. And yes I have been feeling rather emotional lately. Feeling a deep sense of mourning and frustration. There are days that all I want to do is cry. But I keep going, keep recommitting, but I would lie if I would say it is easy. I don’t think this time is easy for anyone and my heart weeps. Time to release all this heaviness and make room for new growth and inspiration. New energy and light.

Wishing you so much ease, grace and joy.

Today, may we all feel gratitude for this precious life we have been given.
